Hi my name is Aiden I started fishing when I was young and have learned some things along the way and am still learning and I want to help you learn with me and show some of the things I have learned. In this guide I will be showing you what fishing gear I thing you need when you are just starting out in your fishing journey. I will cover what rod and reels to use and what you should wait to learn as you go. I will show storage recommendations and basic equipment you will need if you want to succeed and catch your first fish or to help you catch more.

What fishing rod and reel to use at first

Interested in fishing but unsure about which rod and reel to use? Don’t worry, I’m here to help. There are 4 types of reels: spinning, spin cast, bait caster, and fly reels. For beginners, I advise against starting with a bait caster or fly reel, even though I mainly use a bait caster. These require significant practice to master. Your best options are spinning and spin cast reels, which are easy and quick to learn. A spinning reel is slightly better but harder to use; however, you can still learn it easily. In my opinion, a spin cast reel is the best for beginners due to its simplicity. If you decide to continue fishing, you can explore different reels later. I’ll recommend some options for your future fishing adventures.

what to use fishing tackle box or bag

A fishing tackle box and fishing tackle bag each have benefits. A tackle box can hold and organize your lures well and, depending on the size, can store a lot. However, carrying a box over long distances can be cumbersome, especially with your fishing pole. A bag is easier to carry with a strap or as a backpack, which I personally prefer. The downside is backpacks often hold less than a tackle box. I recommend using a backpack with organizers for easier transport along with your pole.

Basic fishing tackle to get started

So you know what reel to use and what to hold your fishing gear in now you just need the fishing supplies. I will tell you what you will need in the beginning. So weather you are a beginner or not everyone will need supporting tackle. This includes things like hooks, bobbers, line, weights, ect. You will also need some simple lures like spinner baits and other retrieval lures. Some simple soft plastic lures will also come in handy. I will include links to some gear below.

Best fishing gear as a beginner

As a beginner it isn’t always the best idea to use lures sometimes it is better to just use live bait like worms or minnows. When using live bait it is much easier as all you need is a hook, bobber, and weight. One thing you might also need is a fishing license depending on where you live you just need to look up the fishing laws in your area. As I mentioned before if you decide to use lures I recommend simple retrieving baits like certain soft plastics and spinner baits. As a beginner you should avoid finesse baits such as a jerk bait and others.
